Scratch Removal in Tucson

The depth test
Drag a fingernail lightly across the scratch. If it glides over without catching, the scratch is confined to the clear coat and there is a good chance polishing can level it. If the nail catches, it has cut through the clear and likely into base coat or primer — no amount of polishing will restore what is not there.
Colour showing in the scratch line is another tell. A white line on dark paint usually means primer is exposed, which is a paint repair, not a detailing job.
What we can and cannot do
We remove scratches by leveling clear coat. We do not perform paint repair, touch-up filling, wet sanding through to base coat, or panel refinishing. When a scratch is beyond polishing we say so and recommend it be handled by a body shop rather than making it look temporarily better with a filler that washes out.
For scratches that are borderline, a realistic outcome is major improvement rather than complete removal — the defect becomes far less visible but may still catch light at certain angles.
Common scratch sources in Tucson

Parking lot contact, backpacks and bags dragged over rear quarters, and key-line scratches are the usual urban causes. Gravel and caliche kicked up on unpaved access roads produce chips rather than scratches, and chips are a fill-and-repair issue, not a polishing one.
Isolated scratch versus whole-panel work
Polishing a single scratch removes clear coat in that spot, which can leave a slightly different reflectivity than its surroundings on a heavily oxidized or swirled panel. Blending across the panel usually gives a better result, and if the rest of the vehicle is swirled, correcting the whole vehicle avoids one conspicuously perfect area.
